Duration and Phases of Years in France

8 to 10 Years of Total duration in France is required for International Students, and the Whole MBBS Course in France is Divided into three phases.

Phase I (PCEM)

The first phase is a year of academic preparation for studying general medicine. There are two chances to pass in the first year. Students must pass a tough test at the end of the first year. For international students to move on to the next step, they must pass the exam with good grades.

Second Phase (DCEM)

It's been four years since the last wave. Those in their fourth year who want to move on to the third stage must have finished the second cycle and done well on theoretical exams. Students must also prove that they did their internships and go to workshops. Once students finish this cycle, they can choose which specialty to pursue. Their choice of specialist will also depend on their grades. 

Third Round (DES)

In the third cycle, there are two study programs: General Medicine and other specialties. Students can get a Diploma in Specialized Studies from either program. In addition, students can take some specialties to earn the DESC certificate in additional specialized studies, which takes two years of study. The student can also work on and discuss a PhD project in medicine.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Students must meet the following eligibility standards to be eligible for Admission to a French medical university for the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery programs.
  • There is a minimum age requirement of 17 years old for the application.
  • At least fifty percent of possible points in the twelfth grade, particularly in the scientific courses (English, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry).
  • If a student wishes to be admitted to a certain university, they must take and pass the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
